"Time for Sweden to change its failed Iran policy, instead of criticizing Trump"
DEBATE INTRODUCTION · "It is the government's irresponsible and shameful Iran policy that has left Swedish companies in the current situation. This despite warning that Iran's economy is controlled by companies and institutions with direct links to the Revolutionary Guard and the highest spiritual leader, Khamenei, "writes Mojtaba Ghotbi.

Reactions from the outside world have been strong and different according to President Trump's message that the United States leaves the nuclear agreement and imposes "hardest economic sanctions" against Iran.

The governments of Berlin, Paris and London consider the US President's decision to be both unfortunate and incomprehensible.

They will now discuss with Tehran to keep the agreement alive, according to a joint statement. The EU spokesman at the same time confirms that the EU intends to maintain its part of the agreement as long as Iran does the same.

A number of politicians at home have also commented on the message. They deplore the decision and warn that US action may lead to increased conflicts in the region and thus instability and even war.

Foreign Minister Margot Wallström said in the SVT's News on Tuesday night that "this does not bother the situation in this region or the world".

She also writes that Sweden and the EU will work to preserve the Iran Agreement (JCPOA). "It is now important that the agreement continues to be respected and that Iran continues to fulfill its commitments," said the Foreign Minister.

UN former deputy secretary general Jan Eliasson chooses to copy the Iranian regime president and believes that President Trump commits a historic mistake by leaving the Iran Agreement.

Increased risk of nuclear war and proliferation, US-Europe splitting, victory for the hard forces in Iran, and distrust of the United States future commitment, not least in the case of Korea talks, are some arguments raised to criticize President Trump's message.

But these are as unfounded as the promise that the Iran Agreement will reform the unacceptable behavior of the priesthood and bring economic benefits to the Iranian people.

However, it is true that the message is damaging the EU's and Sweden's continued trade with Iran.

This is precisely what frightens advocates for continued policy of refusal against Iran's regime. Trade and personal interests but never the Iranian people's suffering.

Therefore, the proponents of this shameful policy never mention that the bulk of Iranian income both before and after the Iran Agreement has been committed to financing terrorism abroad and repression within the country.

The ongoing regime-critical protests and the continuing strikes of the workers across Iran clearly show that the Iranian people have had enough of the fury of the priesthood.

The popular battle orders are aimed at the regime as a whole and show that the people keep its leaders and government responsible for the country's social and economic misery.

But the fact is that it is the government's irresponsible and shameful Iran policy that has left Swedish companies in the current situation. Since 2015, the government and the UD have prioritized trade in the Iranian regime.

This despite warning that Iran's economy is controlled by companies and institutions with direct links to the Revolutionary Guard and the highest spiritual leader, Khamenei.

We have urgently urged the government and the U.K. to end this shameful policy of exclusion and warned that the government's zeal to deal with the Iranian regime exposes Swedish companies to huge risks such as future US sanctions.

This is now a reality and our ministers should change the government's shameful and failed Iran policy instead of criticizing President Trump when he meets one of his promises.

The new Iran policy should support the Iranian people's democratic aspirations and their demands for a democratic change based on more decisive policies in coordination with the EU and the United States, focusing on setting the regime for its human rights violations, support for terrorism and ballistic robotic programs.
